Beisser Lumber Acknowledges Employee Achievements

Beisser Lumber in providing the best service available to it customers has worked cooperatively with the American Institute of Building Design (AIBD) to ensure its designers’ qualifications are competitive.  Currently, Beisser has four members who are participate with AIBD which has been in existence for over 40 years and measures a designer’s qualification on a nationally recognized level.  The members of AIBD are kept updated in their education about new and improved building materials and technology that will impact how we live in the future. In response to the ever changing needs of the design profession, the AIBD board of directors has established the National Council of Building Designer Certification (NCBDC), and has charged its leadership with overseeing the Designer Certification Program.

Two of our members are currently serving as leaders in the Iowa branch of AIBD as president and secretary.  Doug Guyer, our designer in the Coralville office was elected and will be serving as 2008 president.  He has been with Beisser Lumber for five years and with AIBD for the past four years with certification.

In the past, Shane Langos has served as vice president (2000-02) and has most recently been elected for a two year term starting in 2008 as secretary.  He is also certified and has been with AIBD for eight years (20 years with Beisser Lumber).

Both Doug and Shane have achieved the highest classification level with AIBD that a designer can attain. “To qualify, an individual must first possess a minimum of five years of educational and professional design experience. As with the CPBD credential, a Professional Building Designer must subscribe to a scrupulous code of professional ethics. Equally significant, both require a commitment to professional development through a continuing education policy and provider program.”

“Today, the AIBD represents professional and associate members in 46 states and throughout Canada and abroad. Its chartered societies are active in their respective legislative arenas and work to promote public awareness of the building design profession.”

A third staff member, who has received recognition recently, is Bob Lackman in the Beisser Lumber Coralville office.  The Home Builders Association (HBA) of Iowa City has awarded Bob the Associate of the Year award.  Bob supervised the opening of the Coralville branch of the company in 2001 and has served six years as manager.  He was voted by the HBA to receive this award by the Board of Directors in recognition for his contribution to the community and for organizing the Iowa City Home Show.  Bob says, “I believe in the HBA.  I have served in the Home Builders Association a total of 15 years in Illinois and Iowa.”

Extreme Makeover

In December 2005 the Kibe family lost their home due to a fire. Since then the family had been living in a one-bedroom camper on their Tama County farm while trying to get an insurance settlement and a loan to rebuild their home.

On September 10, 2006, Ty Pennington of the hit ABC-TV show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition woke up Shawn and Amy Kibe and their three sons to inform them they had been selected as the next family to have a custom home built. The family spent a week on a Caribbean c?uise while Pennington’s crew and thousands of corporate volunteers built their new home.

On September 17th, after only one week, Ty Pennington and the crew revealed a beautiful two story house to the Kibe family.

Several Iowa companies helped in rebuilding the Kibe home: Hubbell Homes, McAninch Corp., Beisser Lumber Co., Adams Door Co., Atlas Construction Services, Cessford Construction, Flooring Gallery, and Soil-tek.

Beisser Lumber was proud to be a part of the ABC-TV show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”

The episode "Kibe Family" aired on October 29th at 7:00PM CST.
